Additional Notes: Like the Ferrymen, Immortal Guard have an unusual relationship with their P'o (Shadows). The terracotta ritual that created Nong Sheng did not divest him of a P'o but it did "freeze" it within him. This means while it has an Angst score, Dark Passions, and even Thorns, it cannot progress (and he cannot enter [true] Catharsis as a consequence), and remains fairly middling as 2,000-year old Shadows go. The price: no Immortal Guard may ever refuse an imperial command, even if the command is self-destructive. They are forever bound and enthralled to their master. A secondary side effect of the terracotta process is that Immortal Guard are so inherently and metaphysically static that they make even hsien in the nearby Skinlands uncomfortable, and any Waigoren fae would run screaming from the area. A tertiary side effect: an Immortal Guard may not learn any Arcanoi that mitigates the P'o, neither Castigate or Way of the Soul. (In fact, the Emperor and his Guard look poorly upon both Arcanoi, seeing them as tools of rebellious individuality.)

Additionally, while Sheng can develop and nurture Passions, he cannot use them to gain Pathos. In fact, he is limited to gaining Pathos from Way of the Merchant transactions or direct transfer from Yu Huang (Usury is forbidden and cannot even be learned).
