Calvin Brandino

Risen Dead
Argaeonic Suppliancy
Scion of Clan Giovanni

Description

Height: 6'0"
Weight: 170 lb.
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Short simple brown
Clothing: Black or gray business casual
Comportment/Cadence: Threatening
Distinctions: Though pale as a corpse that never saw age 30, Calvin walks with a vigorous swagger that matches the belligerent edge in his alert gaze; he definitely looks the type to have a weapon concealed under his jacket, and his mobster-ish accent brooks zero tolerance
Supernatural Qualities: His pallor is, at a glance, suspicious to any who looks for such signs; likewise, both the Quick and the Dead may know of his Giovanni-aligned exploits for distinctly different reasons
Accoutrements: Light jewelry, concealed weapons
Traits: Appearance 2; Style 1; Notoriety 1

"Want 'em deader than dead? It'll be my pleasure."

History

Date of Birth: May 7th, 1978
Home: Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States
Family: Raffaele and Tea Brandino (parents), Giulitta (older sister), Cecilia (younger sister)
Death: Personal Tragedy (Calvin was traditionally born and raised in the beating heart of Manhattan's mafia, and his family were loyal allies of the "godfather"; when he came of age, the "family" took him under wing and he was ghouled by the Giovanni vampires behind them; he served faithfully and never hesitated to obey, even when the clan flung him at Jack Doyle, a pesky ex-soldier [and deadly Devasu gunfighter] who made short work of all the mafia soldiers, including the unfortunate Calvin, who was shot through the heart with a Prime-charged bullet; his body was mournfully entombed in the family plot), 2002
Mentor: Dario Nicholas
The Test: Trial by Influence (the LCMN Reaped his soul and instructed Calvin in the basics of Underworld life, but he already yearned to somehow crawl out of his grave and return to faithful service to the family and maybe, just maybe, avenge his own death)
Comrades: Allegra Zeta, Otto Santino, Silvano Gastone, Zenobia Assante, Solange Santella, Alessi Fiore, Lucianna Liggio, Consolata Lucci, Sebastian Brazi
Key Event #1: Awe & Wonder (the Lemure began to poke around Heretics' Haunts, following rumors about the secrets to Rising; finally, he was pointed to the Awakeners)
Key Event #2: Awe & Wonder (he learned how to Rise from the secret guild in exchange for favors from the LCMN, which the Giovanni as facilitators over the negotiation between factions agreed to, since Calvin would be a useful soldier and interesting case-study; he stubbornly kicked his way out of his grave and presented himself to the clan in 2005)
Key Event #3: Awe & Wonder (impressed by his drive and loyalty, the clan assigned him to Lucianna as bodyguard; the two hit it right off with a fiery romance almost cliche for two Italian-Americans; he also became the wedge she needed between herself and her father's loyalists)
Key Event #4: War (indeed, more than once over the next several years, he protected Lucianna more than once from rival mobsters and enemy vampires, especially mafia-aligned Ventrue)
Transition: Shift in Purpose (while Calvin nursed a vague hope for revenge against the long-vanished Jack Doyle, he was secretly terrified, his resilient body still bearing the death-wound the magic bullet inflicted, so he stayed content in service to and protection of his still-living ward)

The Shadow

Appearance: Calvin's Shadow manifests as a desperate, wide-eyed, naive, and callow version of himself all too ready to throw himself into a hail of bullets to save his masters, with thoughts of his own safety still present but always pushed aside on a pitiful instinct.
Trigger: Whenever he makes any sort of sacrifice and it goes unrecognized or unrewarded.

The Last Speakeasy (Haunt)

Location: Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States
Structure: Apartment
Stock: An abandoned hole in the wall, so to speak: a "garden apartment" walled up and forgotten about, once used as a speakeasy, and still filled with dusty stools and a functionally stocked bar
Traits: none

Significant Other

Name: Lucianna Liggio, 2005
Nature: Volatile

Lucianna

Weakness

Si, Signore!

Calvin makes an excellent mafiosa soldier. He obeys commands even if he suspects his life (or unlife) could be put at serious risk, because he refuses to ever be known as a coward. Still, what killed him the first time still haunts him daily.

Likelihood of Corruption

High.

The best way to avoid becoming Shadow-eaten is to avoid indulging in dark pleasures and needless violence. Calvin does no such thing, and keeps feeding that black wolf.
